We are currently testing Scalable and Flexible Quality Assurance methods to serve emerging Bible translation methodologies. Our vision is to see the global Church empowered for quality Bible translation rooted in their experience and expertise.
Project Overview
- Multimodal Translation: The project emphasizes a multimodal approach to translation, starting with oral translation but also accommodating text translation pathways.
- Device Accessibility: Tools need to function on culturally appropriate devices already owned by the Church, such as Android phones and tablets, ensuring inclusivity and ease of use.
- Customization and Flexibility: The Church should be able to incorporate their own reference translations and resources, thereby promoting ownership and adaptability.
- Accessibility and Administration: Tools should be freely downloadable, easily administered by on-the-ground staff, and open-licensed for widespread use.
- Current tools exploration focuses on:
- Multimodal Translation—including audio, text, and video (for Deaf) Scriptures
- Transcription—of audio translations to text (and back?)
- Project Creation—software must allow users to easily create and manage projects themselves without BT agencies setting up the initial projects
- Translation Helps—multimodal CBBT software must allow for easy use of best-in-class translator resources such as the FIA resources
- Software Interoperability—since translations may include both audio and text products, translation tools must allow simple and (ideally) lossless migration between applications
- Leveraging AI for Multimodal Translation—including AI assisted…
- Word or phrase editing
- Noise removal and volume normalizer
- AI-assisted automated transcription (majority and minority languages); also transcription of LWC back-translations
- Image creation for translation helps
- Key term checking
- Verse alignment
- Voice cloning
- Text-to-speech
- Future exploration may include:
- Progressive Publication—empowering the church to revise and republish audio and text translation digitally and in print.
